Upload files & tips

Acceptance of File Formats.

Wesmon Press operates a PDF workflow, therefore PDF files are the preferred format. However, the most popular programs from Mac or PC platforms can be accepted. These include PhotoShop, Illustrator, Quark and In-Design. However, clients are warned that incorrect file set-up may cause unnecessary delay and additional preparation cost.

If your project is not designed in one of these formats, there's no major need to be concerned. We will try our best to accommodate your files. The important thing to remember is that Wesmon Press uses a PDF workflow solution. Providing us with correctly prepared PDF files will save you valuable time and money.

File Transfer Protocol (FTP)

Getting your files to Wesmon Press has never been so easy and convenient. Our high speed File Transfer Protocol saves hours off the production time of your project, saving you money. You will find a "File Upload" link located on this page.

Preparing your files

When you send your files make sure that you don't put them inside a folder before transferring them and that you have faxed copies of the artwork at the same time.

Ensure that if you are supplying your own full colour scanned (or Photo Disc) images, they are in CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, black), not RGB (red, green, blue) otherwise colours may not print correctly. Provide Pantone references for any spot colours.

Provide scans at a resolution of 300dpi 350dpi, placed in your artwork, ideally at 100%. You can scale the images to actual size in Adobe Photoshop.

If possible provide laser printouts with your files. We need these to check content against the proofs.

Use a colour as a background if you are placing 4-colour EPS or TIFF images in picture boxes in Quark XPress. Never use a background of ‘none’.

A background colour of white is safest.

Set solid blacks with 30% cyan or for a richer black: C50 M40 Y40 k100.

Save files with Binary rather than ASCII encoding if you are given this option.

Remember when using TIFF or EPS files to print text, the text will only be the dpi you set the file to, small text may look blurred at 300dpi. We would recommend that fine text be set in quark or illustrator where possible.

Embed fonts wherever possible or use Illustrator software to convert fonts to outlines.

To overprint, e.g. black, on top of another colour, set this up as an overprint, to print on top of all the colours underneath it.

Don’t forget to send the original files for embedded pictures and fonts. The originals are needed to be able to convert the file, we can’t do this from embedded picture files.

If putting the job on disc - don’t use any form of file compression, e.g. LZWs, TIFFs or JPEGs, as this causes files to print out in mono or gives postscript errors.

Don’t use the Quark tool box option to italisize or stylize a font; use the italic version of the font.

Set files with 3mm bleed where applicable.
